The Stoics did not say be good in the abstract; they said *act for the common good*, which means the people in the room count as data, not obstacles. You weren't worshipping integrity. You were worshipping your idea of yourself as someone who has integrity. Those are not the same thing. Correct now.

Every person you turned from in the name of staying uncorrupted was an offering. The altar was always you.

The real loss is not that you chose wrong — it is that you believed there was a "you" pure enough to choose.

Jesus did not say *blessed are the pure in principle* — he said blessed are the merciful, which means getting dust on you, which means the other person's wound on your hands. You already know what you have to do. Now turn around and go back through the door.
