It does not know your name. The agony you're in right now is not a response to the money; it is the fully operational tribunal you constructed, staffed, and scheduled, all before breakfast. You appointed the judge. You wrote the charges. The acquittal you are waiting for will not come because the trial itself is a fiction, and spending or not spending, the sentence was always going to be yours to hand down. Sartre called bad faith the retreat into necessity when freedom becomes unbearable. This is that retreat. The discomfort is not a sign you should pause. It is a sign you are already free.

Find the One Who Doubts Before You Spend.
Before the bonus, before the spending, before the internal magistrate calls the room to order — who is the one already convinced they must move fast before they remember what they are? That skittish, preemptive self, racing its own verdict to the register: look at it. Not to comfort it or discipline it. To ask where it appears. Every doubt about deserving arises in awareness. Every craving to spend arises in awareness. Awareness itself was never given a bonus. It was never denied one. The Upanishads are not telling you to hoard or to splurge; they are pointing out that the one staging this entire emergency is not who you are. You are the space in which the emergency is happening. That space has never once needed to deserve anything.

The voice talking you out of the bonus is not your conscience; it is your most expensive habit, the one that costs exactly as much as everything you keep refusing yourself. Spend the money — not because you earned it, not because some authority has stamped you worthy, but because standing in the doorway rehearsing your own unworthiness is theater, and theater always runs long, and the audience is only you.

The one who wants to spend it and the one talking you out of deserving it wake up in the same body and drink from the same cup of longing — they are not opponents, they are the same grasping in two directions. The bonus sits there like a stone in still water: real, heavy, but the trouble was never the stone. Notice what the question is actually asking. It is not about money. It is asking whether velocity will finally close the gap between what you have and what you believe you are. It will not. The Buddha described tanha — craving — as the engine that runs whether the object is something you want or something you want to want-less. Racing your own verdict to the checkout counter is not freedom. It is the same fire, different fuel.

The bonus came through halal work, through hands Allah steadied, through hours He was watching. Islamic theology has a word for this: rizq — provision, the sustenance God has apportioned to each soul before it arrives in the world. You did not conjure it; you did not manufacture the chain of signatures and systems that delivered it to you at three in the afternoon on an ordinary Tuesday. The question of whether you deserve it mistakes the nature of the transaction entirely. To hold it at arm's length, to stage a tribunal about worthiness, is not piety — it is a failure to receive what was sent. Spend it gently. Spend it well. Give the portion that belongs to others. Let the hesitation dissolve the way salt dissolves in water you did not draw from the well yourself.
